Information Department is responsible to disseminate timely and correct information through print, electronic and social media for awareness of general public to create positive image of the government.
The basic role of Director General (PR) is to supervise and ensure exposure of the Sindh Government’s policies, initiatives etc through different mediums of publicity.
DGPR is also playing an important role for the betterment of working journalists and redressal of issues confronting to them by providing cooperation and coordination.
DGPR and Director Press Information (and Divisional Directors of Information) issue the Accreditation Cards to the Journalists only after receiving recommendations from the Editor of the news paper and Bureau Chief of a TV Channel. For this purpose a provincial accreditation Committee is also constituted.
Director General (PR) and Director Information (Advertisements) finalize the issuance of Advertisement to the print, electronic and Social Media platforms/Web sites etc strictly in accordance with the Sindh Government Advertisement Policy 2024.
Director Information (Administration and Accounts) is responsible for Administrative discipline and issues the directives/ orders/ Transfers and Posting of BPS-01 to 15 officials. He deals with Financial and Accounts matter of the Directorate General of Public Relations Sindh.
Their responsibilities is to monitor publicity of the Government of Sindh as well as to highlight the adverse news against the Government of Sindh.
They communicate the media trend to the high ups for clarification/ rebuttal/ factual position and version of the government.
Director General (PR) has a supervising role.
The role of DGPR and Regional Director of P.I.D is more or less the same, ensuring publicity of the government by keeping close liaison with the media houses.
Director General (PR) is overall head of the attached department and has a supervising role.
The office of the DGPR, maintains liaison with all the stake holders to ensure timely publicity of the Government.
The Public Relations Officers are attached with Ministers/ Advisors/ Special Assistants/Parliamentary Secretaries and administrative Secretaries for coordination with media personnel; and responsible for publicity work associated with
the statements, announcements, initiatives, projects, policies and Activities of the government through media.
There are various media platforms available viz, print, electronic and social / digital for publicity of the government policies and mega projects through news items and advertisements.
Director General Public Relation is the head of the scrutiny committee constituted for giving recommendations for grant in aid/ financial assistance to the Press Clubs/ Media Bodies/ Associations and individual deserving journalists within the limit of provided budgetary allocations.
Directly there is no role of DGPR in establishing Press Clubs. However, DGPR from the funds in the shape of grant-in-aid for the Press Clubs for its upgradation/ renovation to facilitate the working journalists for steady and fast communication of news to the concerned media platforms.
DGPR is focal person to coordinate with the working journalists of other provinces. Recently delegations of Journalists from Punjab, Baluchistan, KPK and Islamabad Capital City also visited the Sindh province.
The DGPR has new role to ensure implementation of Press Laws and Regulation through different Directorate of Information Department.
As per existing Press Law, the Information Department has no clear direct role in approval of “Title” of newspaper/ Periodical across the province.
The Directorate of Press, Information Department follows the law as envisaged in ‘Books, Newspapers, Periodicals, News agencies and printing Press Ordinance 2001.
A 3-member commission has been constituted, headed by Chief Information Commissioner and works in accordance with the RTI Act 2016.

The Offices of Information Department, Government of Sindh have been established in all districts of the province.
