DIRECTORATE OF PRESS AT KARACHI

This Directorate deals with NOCs required for declarations of Newspapers / Periodicals and Printing Presses in the Province.

The Directorate monitors / scrutinizes newspapers, periodicals,  journals and also ensures implementation of Press, Newspapers, News Agencies and Books Registration Ordinance, 2002.

Directorate also drafted ‘Right to Information Act-2016’ and got approved from Provincial Assembly of Sindh and its gazette notification issued. Provincial Chief Information Commissioner and Commissioners and focal person also appointed/ nominated by Govt. of Sindh. Secretariat needs to be established soon.

The Directorate prepares Daily Press Summary of English, Urdu and Sindhi newspapers which is placed for perusal of Chief Minister by 8.00 a.m on daily basis.

FUNCTION OF DIRECTORATE OF PRESS

1. Verify / Cross Check the proposed titles of any newspapers / periodicals / news agency with the consultation / approval of Press Registrar, Press Information Department, Government of Pakistan, Islamabad and Commissioner \ Deputy Commissioner for issuance of NOC in this regard.

2. Verify the proposed title of Printing Press with the consultation / approval concerned Commissioner / Deputy Commissioner for issuance of NOC in this regard.

3. Scrutiny of periodicals and then, if require, in case of any objectionable material the same are referred to the Home Department for necessary action.

4. This Directorate also deal Sub-judice Cases in connection with any dispute arises between two newspapers / owners / Publishers. Mostly over the issue of title.

5. To maintain record of Printing Presses in Province of Sindh.

6. Receive gratis copies of newspapers & periodicals to maintain their record and Regularity.

7. To maintain record of newspapers/periodicals included in the Sindh Media List, then submit report on weekly basis to the Worthy Secretary Information Sindh & Director Information (Advt.) to issue advertisement to the regular newspapers/periodicals.

8. Issuance of Regularity Certificate to the Publisher for purpose of obtaining ABC Certificate from Press Information Department.

9. Letter for inclusion in Central Media List issue to Director / Assistant Director (Advts.) Press Information Department, Government of Pakistan, Islamabad. On his request.

10. To maintain Frequency Report of newspapers / periodicals from Interior of Sindh in order to issuance of Regularity Certificate.

11. Issuance of NOC for change of Publishership to Commissioner /Deputy Commissioner concerned.

12. Issuance of change of Keeper ship (Printing Press) to concerned Commissioner / Deputy Commissioner.

13. Issuance of NOC for change of periodicity of any publication to the Commissioner / Deputy Commissioner concerned.

14. Issuance of letter to concerned Commissioner / Deputy Commissioner and Home Department for stopping illegal publication.
