DIRECTORATE OF PUBLICATIONS

The Directorate of Publications, Information Department, Government of Sindh is responsible for documenting, publishing, and disseminating information relating to the policies, programmes, development initiatives, activities, and achievements of the Government of Sindh.

The Directorate serves as an important institutional platform for communicating government priorities and matters of public interest through authoritative publications, while also contributing to the preservation and promotion of Sindh's rich literary, cultural, historical, and political heritage.

Mandate

In response to the rapidly evolving media and information landscape, the Directorate has broadened its publishing role to provide timely, credible, and accessible public information.

Its mandate encompasses the publication of monthly and weekly periodicals, books, special issues, commemorative publications, and other information materials highlighting government policies, development initiatives, public welfare programmes, official activities, and matters of public interest.

The Directorate also documents significant events, personalities, and milestones associated with the history and cultural heritage of Sindh.

Regular Publications

The Directorate publishes the following periodicals:

Monthly Magazines

• Izhar — Urdu Monthly Magazine
• Paigham — Sindhi Monthly Magazine

Weekly Publication

• Sindh Manzar — Weekly Publication in Urdu and Sindhi

Sindh Manzar provides regular coverage of important governmental activities, policies, development initiatives, public-interest matters, and significant events across the province. Published in both Urdu and Sindhi, the weekly serves as an important medium for wider dissemination of information and strengthening public awareness.

Special & Commemorative Publications

In addition to its regular periodicals, the Directorate produces special issues and commemorative publications on significant national, historical, cultural, literary, and provincial occasions.

Since April 2008, a number of special publications have been brought out on subjects and personalities of enduring historical and cultural importance, including:

These publications contribute to documenting and preserving the historical, cultural, literary, and political legacy of Sindh and Pakistan.

Distribution & Outreach

The Directorate disseminates its publications through an established institutional distribution network, including:

• Government departments and offices
• Public and institutional libraries
• Press clubs
• Divisional offices of the Information Department
• District offices of the Information Department

Through this network, publications are made accessible to government officials, media professionals, researchers, students, libraries, and members of the general public.

Institutional Role

Since its inception, the Publications Section of the Information Department, Government of Sindh, has played an important role in communicating government policies, development priorities, public welfare initiatives, and matters of public interest.

The publication of Izhar in Urdu and Paigham in Sindhi has traditionally been a central component of this mandate. The addition of Sindh Manzar, published weekly in Urdu and Sindhi, further strengthens the Directorate's capacity for regular and timely dissemination of information.

The rapid expansion of electronic, digital, and social media has transformed the manner in which citizens access and engage with information. In this environment, effective public communication requires information to be timely, credible, transparent, well-documented, and accessible.

The Directorate of Publications continues to modernise its publishing practices in response to these changing communication needs while maintaining its core responsibility of documenting and disseminating information concerning the Government of Sindh.
