THE DIRECTORATE OF INFORMATION SUKKUR

The Directorate of Information Sukkur serves as a key regional communication and public relations arm of the Information Department, Government of Sindh. It facilitates the dissemination of government policies, programmes, initiatives and achievements across Sukkur Division, while maintaining effective coordination between the Government, media and the public.

The Sindh Information Center, Sukkur, was established in 1968 at Mehran Markaz, adjacent to the historic Ghanta Ghar, Sukkur. Subsequently, the Directorate of Information was shifted from Khairpur to Sukkur on 3 June 1974. Following the devolution process in 2002, the office was redesignated as the District Information Office, Sukkur, and on 18 October 2002, it was re-designated as the Regional Directorate of Information, Sukkur Region @ Sukkur.

Mandate and Responsibilities

The Directorate is responsible for the effective dissemination and publicity of the policies, programmes, activities and achievements of the Government of Sindh and its senior functionaries. Its public relations mandate includes coverage and dissemination of official activities of the:

Governor of Sindh

Chief Minister of Sindh

Provincial Ministers

Advisors and Special Assistants to the Chief Minister

Coordinators to the Chief Minister

Chief Secretary, Sindh

Inspector General of Police, Sindh

Provincial Government departments and field formations

The Directorate facilitates comprehensive media coverage of government activities by coordinating with Public Relations Officers (PROs) attached to Ministers, Advisors and government departments. It ensures timely dissemination of official information through print and electronic media, including press releases, handouts, statements, event coverage and other communication materials.

The Directorate also maintains close and professional liaison with journalists and media organizations, facilitating media personnel in the discharge of their journalistic responsibilities. It processes and issues press accreditation cards to eligible journalists following verification through their respective media organizations and in accordance with applicable government procedures.

The Directorate maintains coordination with press clubs and media organizations across the division. Press clubs operating in the region include:

Daily Media Coordination and Coverage

The Directorate undertakes the daily preparation and dissemination of official handouts, press releases and media information concerning the activities of Provincial Ministers, government departments, and Divisional and District administrations.

It coordinates coverage of official meetings, development initiatives, public engagements, government programmes and other important activities for dissemination through print and electronic media, ensuring timely and accurate communication of government information to the public.

Press Accreditation

The Directorate facilitates the accreditation of journalists working across Sukkur Division. Accreditation is undertaken after due verification from the respective media organizations and in accordance with prescribed government procedures.
